Independent Living Specialist

​The Southwestern Center for Independent Living (SWCIL) is seeking a full-time Independent Living (IL) Specialist working in communities of Southwest Minnesota.
This position works to promote societal acceptance, inclusion, and equal access by empowering individuals with disabilities with IL resources and services.

Primary job functions include: providing IL skills training, advocacy assistance, career consultation, and peer counseling services to youth in schools and adults in the community.
Must be able to work independently, have knowledge of disabilities and their characteristics, reliable transportation, and pass a DHS background study. Persons with disabilities are strongly urged to apply.

Minimum qualifications: four-year degree in a human/social services or related field or a two-year degree in a human/social services field combined with one year of experience in a disability related position. Educational requirements may be substituted by experience with disabilities/disability services.
Remote officing option but must reside in SW MN to provide services in local communities.

Ramp Building Assistant
​Are you looking for extra income? Would you like to be more involved in your community?
​ The Southwestern Center for Independent Living is seeking part-time paid volunteers. This is a seasonal position to help build and install wooden modular ramps and temporary aluminum ramps for individuals with disabilities. Flexible schedule. Must be able to lift 50 pounds. Repetitive lifting and bending are required. Must have knowledge or a willingness to learn to use both hand and power tools. Construction experience preferred but not required. Willing to train the right individual. Reliable transportation is required.
